Joe’s Garage is a well-established café and restaurant franchise, known throughout New Zealand for its fast, friendly service and consistently delicious food and coffee. Our New Plymouth location is one of the busiest and most vibrant in town, offering an open kitchen, guest-facing service, and a strong, supportive team environment.

As Café Manager, you will be responsible for leading day-to-day operations while ensuring excellence in guest service, staff performance, compliance, and financial oversight.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee and coordinate all café operations
• Develop and manage rosters based on operational needs
• Assist in menu planning with the kitchen team
• Order stock, manage inventory, and control costs
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, and food hygiene standards
• Oversee cash handling, till balancing, and banking procedures
• Manage payroll, HR functions, and performance reviews
• Train, mentor, and supervise front- and back-of-house staff
• Respond to customer inquiries and resolve service issues professionally
• Maintain records and report on operational performance

Skills and Experience Required Qualifications: A relevant NZ Diploma in Hospitality or Business (NZQF Level 5 or higher) OR At least 3 years of relevant full-time hospitality or retail management experience

Experience:

• Previous experience managing a hospitality or retail
• Strong front-of-house experience or retail; barista skills preferred
• Experience with HR systems, and admin processes preferred

• Availability to work across a rotating roster including weekends and evenings
